Frequently asked questions
Please find FAQ below
1. What is your policy on nakedness in the sauna?
In mixed sauna ceremonies, participants wear swimsuits. At women-only sauna sessions, it is entirely up to you whether you would like to wear your swimsuit in the sauna.
Traditionally, families go to the sauna naked in Finland. The most important thing, however, is that you feel relaxed and at ease throughout your time in the sauna.
Please note that the sauna healer is not naked in the sauna.
2. Is your sauna wellness service LGBTQ+ friendly?
Yes, all genders and sexualities are warmly welcome in the sauna. The sauna is a place to let go of everyday roles and simply be yourself.
3. How hot is the sauna during a ceremony or healing session?
You may be wondering whether it is possible to stay in a hot sauna for 30 to 90 minutes — that is a completely understandable concern! Please don't worry. The heat is carefully regulated and guided by Alessandra, your sauna guide. She opens the door to let in cool air, and there are several breaks throughout the session.
The temperature may vary between 60–80°C, but it is not intense the entire time. The löyly makes the heat feel soft and gentle.
4. What are your core values?
• Love for the forest
The sauna begins in the forest, and without the forest, there is no sauna.
• Diversity, not monoculture
Diversity means life — in nature and in culture alike.
• Cyclical awareness
A deep respect for the rhythms of nature and the cycles of the body.
• Reciprocity
It is time to give something back to nature and to rediscover our relationship with the elements.
5. How do you care for the environment and sustainable development?
The sauna is part of Finland's cultural heritage and plays an important role in social and cultural sustainability.
Saariston saunottaja cares for the environment by making use of existing saunas rather than building new ones. We produce close to zero waste. Everything used in the sauna comes from the local forest: whisks and herbs are gathered locally and everything can be composted after use.
6. What is your address?
We offer Finnish sauna ceremonies at several saunas across the Turku region. Alessandra can come to the sauna of your choice, and open events are also held at various saunas in the region.
7. What are your opening hours?
Opening hours vary depending on the sauna. You are welcome to book a private sauna ritual on any day of the week.
